A Twin Cities native, Michelle relocated to the Mankato area in March of 2016. While working in the Mankato, Minnesota office of Birkholz & Associates, Michelle has successfully handled cases in the areas of family law and criminal defense.
Michelle takes the time to get to know her clients individually. Michelle learns each client’s needs and circumstances and tailors her approach to encompass all aspects of the client’s family life, including their relationships and family dynamics. Michelle has experience in complex divorce matters, order for protection and harassment matters, and custody disputes.
Michelle’s experience in criminal law began when she interned with the Minneapolis City Attorney’s Office in their criminal division. She analyzed misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor criminal cases. Michelle handled numerous individual criminal cases working the first appearance and in-custody calendar. After this internship, Michelle next interned at the Department of Homeland Security: Immigration and Customs Enforcement. She attended removal proceedings and researched and drafted memos for the department in regarding immigration cases. Michelle also participated in the University of St. Thomas Law’s Misdemeanor Defense Clinic and worked for the Third District Public Defender’s Office. There she drafted motions and memorandums for a variety of criminal defense issues.
